If you ever wondered about what AI is doing in 2024 towards climate change, I have those stories here for you to peruse. All of them are helpful which I believe should be the purpose of this tech.

One such example is helping with plastic cleanup in the ocean. You can’t clean it up if you cannot find it. And that is where AI excels. It lays out a blueprint for others to follow which is what a group in the Netherlands is doing in their program ‘The Ocean Cleanup’.

We can thank the UK for their efforts towards icebergs by measuring loss due to climate change. AI can do it so much faster. Of concern is how much our oceans are rising due to glacial melt.

The UK has also become innovative in the waste management arena using AI. By doing this, they will reduce greenhouse gases in the system and clean up more waste that might otherwise end up in landfills.

The mining industry and oil and gas also use AI to help them recognize emissions and lessen the load in the atmosphere. Since these industries and more are responsible for greater than 1/3 of emissions, this is a good thing.

Brazil can also be credited for their approach to climate disasters using this tech. Knowing when these catastrophes will happen and the type to expect is crucial in preparing to manage consequences.

Finally, Scotland is mapping deforestation to see how much forest remains to store carbon. Over 30 countries are involved in the process through satellite monitoring. So there are considerable efforts globally to pay attention to climate change. We can thank AI for that and doing what it does best, analysis.
